I bought the most beautiful office furniture from Karen at this location, and I am blown away about how great it is! Four items that are extremely well made, solid birch wood, beautifully finished, and basically indestructible! I’ve never had anything made so well and beautifully. Absolutely love it… Highly recommend this location and talk to Karen!

If you need furniture, go to Amish Country Heirlooms. Great products, exceptional customer service and fair prices. We bought a rocker loveseat. It is incredibly comfortable, lightweight but sturdy and the leather is beautiful. When we picked it up, it came in 4 pieces. Karen said it was easy to put together, but my husband was skeptical. Turns out, it was incredibly easy. When we had a problem because we had not pushed it together enough, Karen called us right back to resolve the problem. The staff is very responsive and the furniture is high quality. We are very happy.

We LOVE Amish Country Heirlooms! We found this shop by chance while we were out for a leisurely drive. We stopped at a few of small towns to check out some of the cool little shops they had. When we came into Arthur we parked in front of this shop. When entering the shop we were greeted by Karen (who by the way is awesome), she asked if there was anything she could help us with, we said we were just looking and she said “Well if you have questions or need anything just let me know, I am happy to help”. We looked around at all of the gorgeous items they have when we came across the table section of the store. We had been looking on and off for a table that we could seat at least 10 or 12 as we have a large family. Karen showed us a couple of different tables and how they would extend. She provided all the information from type of wood, colors to choose from, style of table to the various types of chairs, with absolutely no pressure to buy anything. With all of this information at hand, we were able to choose the design of our brand new table and chairs. Karen was up front about the time it would take to build our table and chairs as these are handmade items. She also provided us with updates during the construction of our table and chairs. Her estimate of when our table would be available was spot on. When we arrived with an enclosed trailer and plenty of furniture pads to pick up our items, they couldn’t have been more helpful. They helped us get everything wrapped and loaded for a safe ride home. Karen and her staff made this a most pleasurable experience for us and we LOVE our new table and chairs.

I have been doing business with Karen, Steve and Loraine at Amish Country Heirlooms for about 20 years and during that time I have found the furniture I have purchased to be of the highest quality. They are a great group to work with and have always been very caring; making sure you receive what you need and always going the extra mile. Last spring we were there to pick up some merchandise and after loading, our truck would not start. Karen was kind enough to help us out, even to the point of walking home to get her car charger. Not many people would go to that extent to help their customers. Wonderful people to deal with, and a store worth trusting to deliver everything promised and more.Don &Tracy Dorrough

Compare Solid Wood Bed Styles

Which Type of Bed Is Right for Your Bedroom?

The bed usually establishes the layout and visual direction of the entire bedroom. While every bed provides a comfortable place to rest, differences in footprint, storage, flexibility, and intended use can make one style better suited to your room than another. Amish Country Heirlooms offers standard beds, storage beds, daybeds, and wallbeds, giving you options for primary bedrooms, guest spaces, multipurpose rooms, and homes where every square foot matters.

A standard bed is a versatile choice for primary bedrooms, guest rooms, and children’s rooms. These beds are available in a wide range of styles, from understated contemporary designs to traditional panel and mission-inspired frames.

Because the area beneath and around the bed remains relatively open, a standard bed also gives you more freedom when arranging dressers, chests, benches, and nightstands. Choose this style when you want the bed itself to be the visual centerpiece without adding built-in drawers or mechanisms.

Storage beds combine sleeping space with drawers or compartments incorporated into the bed frame. They can be especially helpful in bedrooms with limited wall space or smaller closets because the bed uses an area that might otherwise remain empty.

Consider the direction in which the drawers open and make sure there is enough clearance beside the bed. Storage beds are a strong option for keeping extra bedding, seasonal clothing, shoes, or personal items within easy reach.

Daybeds provide a comfortable sleeping surface while maintaining the appearance and function of a sofa or lounge. They work well in guest rooms, home offices, reading rooms, and other spaces that serve more than one purpose.

Their compact orientation can make them easier to place along a wall than a conventional bed. A daybed may also be paired with a trundle or additional storage, depending on the selected design and available options.

Wallbeds allow the sleeping surface to be raised when it is not needed, freeing more of the room for work, hobbies, exercise, or entertaining. They are particularly useful in home offices, guest rooms, small homes, and multifunctional spaces.

A wallbed requires careful planning because the cabinet must fit the available wall and ceiling height. You should also account for the floor space needed when the bed is lowered and any surrounding doors, windows, lighting, or furniture.

A More Complete Way to Furnish Your Bedroom

Start With a Bedroom Collection You Love

A bedroom collection gives you a helpful starting point for coordinating the room without requiring every piece to be purchased at once. Browse collections that bring together complementary beds, dressers, chests, mirrors, and nightstands, then select the pieces that best fit your storage needs and available space.

With customizable hardwoods, finishes, and hardware, the same collection can take on a lighter, more contemporary appearance or a warmer, more traditional character. Individual collection offerings vary; for example, the Ledo Collection currently includes a bed, several dresser and chest configurations, and multiple nightstand options.

Make Better Use of Your Bedroom Space

Build a Bedroom With the Right Storage

Bedroom storage works best when several pieces serve different purposes rather than asking one oversized piece to hold everything. Dressers provide broad drawer storage and a useful top surface, chests take advantage of vertical space, nightstands keep everyday items beside the bed, and wardrobes add enclosed storage where closet space is limited.

Dressers

Dressers provide several wide drawers for folded clothing, bedding, and everyday necessities. Their lower profile also creates a generous surface for a mirror, lamp, jewelry box, photographs, or decorative accessories.

Chests of Drawers

Chests use vertical space to provide multiple stacked drawers within a narrower footprint. They are helpful in smaller bedrooms or rooms where most of the wider walls are occupied by windows, doors, or the bed.

Wardrobes and Armoires

Wardrobes and armoires provide enclosed storage for hanging clothing, folded garments, linens, or personal belongings. They can be especially valuable in older homes, guest rooms, and bedrooms with small or nonexistent closets.

Go Beyond the Standard Dresser

Storage Designed for More Specific Needs

Some belongings require a more specialized storage solution than a standard dresser or chest of drawers. Blanket chests provide broad enclosed storage, lingerie chests fit into narrow areas, gentleman’s chests combine several storage formats, and mule chests offer substantial capacity in a single piece. These designs can supplement a closet, complete a bedroom collection, or provide practical storage exactly where it is needed.

Blanket chests provide a wide compartment for comforters, pillows, seasonal bedding, keepsakes, and other larger items. They are commonly placed at the foot of a bed or against an open wall.

Their low profile allows them to add storage without visually overwhelming the room. Some designs may also provide a practical surface for arranging folded blankets or preparing clothing, although the top should only be used as seating when the piece is specifically designed for it.

A gentleman’s chest commonly combines drawers, doors, shelving, and sometimes hanging storage within one substantial cabinet. This makes it useful for organizing several types of clothing and personal belongings in one location.

It can function as an alternative or supplement to a traditional closet. Because configurations differ from one model to another, review the interior arrangement carefully and choose a design that reflects how you prefer to organize your clothing.

Lingerie chests provide a series of smaller drawers within a tall, narrow cabinet. Despite the name, they can be used for accessories, undergarments, scarves, jewelry, personal items, documents, and other belongings that benefit from separate compartments.

Their narrow footprint makes them particularly useful between windows, beside a dresser, or on a smaller section of wall that cannot accommodate wider bedroom furniture.

Mule chests combine wide drawer storage with a substantial upper cabinet or enclosed compartment. They provide significant capacity and may reduce the need for several separate storage pieces.

This design works well in larger bedrooms or rooms where one broad storage cabinet is more practical than a dresser-and-chest combination. Measure the wall, ceiling, doorways, and delivery path before selecting one because mule chests can be among the largest bedroom storage pieces.

Complete the Bedroom With the Right Finishing Pieces

Once the primary bed and storage pieces have been selected, finishing furniture can make the bedroom more comfortable and easier to use. Floor mirrors provide a full-length view, wall mirrors preserve floor space, nightstands keep everyday items beside the bed, and bedroom occasionals add seating or display space.

Night Stands

Nightstands keep lamps, books, glasses, devices, and other nighttime necessities conveniently beside the bed. Designs may include one, two, or three drawers, along with open shelves or doors, depending on the model.

Wall Mirrors

Wall mirrors add function without occupying valuable floor space. They may be installed over a dresser or placed on another open wall to reflect light and make the room feel more open.

Occasionals

Bedroom occasionals may include upholstered benches, quilt racks, and other supporting pieces. A bench can provide a convenient place to sit while dressing, while a quilt rack keeps favorite blankets neatly displayed and easily accessible.

Create Furniture Suited To Your Style, Space, and Daily Routine

The right bedroom furniture should fit more than a design trend. It should fit the room, support the way you organize your belongings, and reflect the atmosphere you want to create. Amish Country Heirlooms offers customizable furniture made from solid American hardwoods, with choices that include wood species, stain colors, hardware, and other available design details. The website currently highlights hardwood options such as brown maple, cherry, red oak, and quartersawn white oak.

  • Choose your hardwood species to create the grain pattern, tone, and character you want throughout the bedroom.
  • Select a finish color that complements your flooring, wall colors, existing furniture, and preferred design style.
  • Adjust available furniture dimensions to make better use of a particular wall, alcove, or bedroom layout.
  • Coordinate beds and storage by selecting complementary dressers, chests, nightstands, mirrors, and wardrobes.
  • Personalize hardware and details to give traditional, rustic, transitional, or contemporary furniture a more individual appearance.

Bedroom Furniture Buying Guide

A well-planned bedroom usually combines several pieces with different responsibilities. The bed establishes the room’s layout, while dressers, chests, nightstands, and wardrobes provide storage at different heights and capacities. Use this chart as a starting point, then measure the room and consider how drawers, doors, and walking paths will function once the furniture is in place.

Furniture Piece Best For Main Function Space Requirement Storage Level Why Choose It
Standard Bed Primary and guest bedrooms Provides a traditional sleeping space Medium to large None unless added separately Offers the widest range of styles and coordinating options
Storage Bed Rooms needing additional concealed storage Combines a bed with built-in drawers or compartments Medium with drawer clearance High Uses the area beneath the mattress for practical storage
Daybed Guest rooms and multipurpose spaces Provides seating and occasional sleeping space Small to medium Low to medium Allows one room to serve several purposes
Wallbed Offices, guest rooms, and compact homes Stores the sleeping surface vertically when not in use Requires open wall and floor clearance Varies by cabinet design Frees usable floor space between overnight visits
Dresser Folded clothing and everyday bedroom storage Provides wide drawers and a usable top surface Medium to large wall width High Combines substantial storage with space for a mirror or décor
Chest of Drawers Smaller rooms or limited wall width Provides stacked drawers in a vertical form Small to medium High Adds storage while using less horizontal wall space
Nightstand Bedside necessities Keeps lighting, books, devices, and personal items nearby Small Low to medium Improves bedside convenience without occupying much space
Wardrobe or Armoire Rooms with limited closet space Adds enclosed hanging, shelf, or drawer storage Medium to large with adequate height High Functions as a freestanding closet or storage cabinet

Bedroom Furniture FAQ’s

Bedroom Furniture Questions, Answered

Helpful guidance for selecting, measuring, coordinating, and customizing your bedroom furniture.

Measure the room’s length, width, and ceiling height, along with the wall space between windows, doors, vents, and closets. Record doorway, hallway, and stairway dimensions to confirm that the furniture can be delivered into the room. For dressers and chests, account for the space required to open drawers. Around the bed, preserve comfortable walking clearance and make sure storage-bed drawers can open fully.

A chest of drawers is often more practical when wall width is limited because it provides vertical storage within a narrower footprint. A dresser requires more horizontal space but offers wider drawers and a useful surface for a mirror, lighting, or personal items. Many bedrooms benefit from both, but the best choice depends on the room’s layout and the type of clothing you need to store.

Customization options can include hardwood species, stain color, hardware, size, and selected design details, depending on the piece and builder. Begin with a furniture style you like, then discuss how its appearance or configuration could be adjusted for your home. Amish Country Heirlooms invites customers to provide dimensions, a description, and a preferred stain when requesting a custom quote.

Bedroom furniture does not need to be identical, but the room should have a few repeating elements. You might coordinate the wood tone, finish color, hardware, leg shape, or general design style while allowing individual pieces to vary. Complete collections offer the easiest path to a unified appearance, while carefully selected complementary pieces can create a more collected and personal room.

Choose a standard bed when you want more design flexibility, a visually lighter frame, or unrestricted access around the bed. Consider a storage bed when additional drawers would reduce the need for another chest or dresser. Before selecting storage, confirm that the drawers will not be blocked by nightstands, walls, doors, or other furniture.

Many bedroom collections include individual beds, dressers, chests, mirrors, and nightstands that can be selected according to your needs. This allows you to begin with the most important pieces and add coordinating furniture later. Availability and included pieces vary by collection, so review the individual collection details or speak with the design team before ordering.
