Comfort You Can Feel. Quality You Can See.

Choosing living room furniture involves more than finding a sofa or chair that looks good. Seating should feel comfortable, tables should fit naturally around the room, and storage pieces should support everyday life without making the space feel crowded. Customer reviews can provide helpful insight into the furniture’s quality and the guidance available throughout the selection process.

At Amish Country Heirlooms, the experienced design team helps customers compare styles, materials, upholstery, finishes, dimensions, and available customization options. The goal is to make each decision feel manageable while helping you create a living space you will enjoy for years.

We recently purchased 2 leather sofas and a glider chair from this company. We are very pleased with the furniture! The quality is exceptional, truly heirloom construction. The purchasing and delivery process was seamless. They delivered and set up the furniture on time and as promised. We highly recommend this store to everyone. Karen, Steve and staff are wonderful to work with. Thank-you for your service and your commitment to quality! Many blessings to you!

I am so happy with my new quilt display cabinet! Not only does it fit right in with my furniture, but it also gives me an opportunity to display my lovely quilts, like artwork. Quality product and nice people to work with! Thank you so much

I bought the most beautiful office furniture from Karen at this location, and I am blown away about how great it is! Four items that are extremely well made, solid birch wood, beautifully finished, and basically indestructible! I’ve never had anything made so well and beautifully. Absolutely love it… Highly recommend this location and talk to Karen!

If you need furniture, go to Amish Country Heirlooms. Great products, exceptional customer service and fair prices. We bought a rocker loveseat. It is incredibly comfortable, lightweight but sturdy and the leather is beautiful. When we picked it up, it came in 4 pieces. Karen said it was easy to put together, but my husband was skeptical. Turns out, it was incredibly easy. When we had a problem because we had not pushed it together enough, Karen called us right back to resolve the problem. The staff is very responsive and the furniture is high quality. We are very happy.

Great store with a wide selection of first quality furniture to choose from. Great staff that is willing to work with you to get you what you need. If they don't have in the showroom they will custom order for you in your color and design. Purchased couches and bedroom suite and absolutely love them.

Compare Comfortable Seating Styles

Which Seating Style Fits Your Living Room?

Your primary seating establishes how the living room functions and how people move through it. Traditional sofas provide versatile seating, sectionals create a larger conversation area, sleeper sofas add overnight accommodations, and love seats offer comfort within a smaller footprint. Before selecting a style, consider the number of people who regularly use the room, the available wall space, and the location of doors, windows, walkways, and media furniture.

A sofa provides comfortable seating for several people and can serve as the central anchor of a living room. Standard sofas are available in a wide variety of frame styles, arm designs, cushion configurations, upholstery options, and reclining features.

A sofa is often the most flexible choice when you want to pair the main seating with accent chairs, recliners, or a love seat. Measure the overall width and depth carefully, and account for enough room to walk around the furniture without interrupting the natural flow of the room.

Sectionals combine multiple seating units into a larger arrangement. They work especially well in family rooms, open-concept spaces, and homes where several people regularly gather to watch television, visit, or relax.

Available configurations may include left- or right-facing sections, corner units, chaises, and reclining seats. Because sectional layouts are less flexible once installed, confirm the orientation, doorway access, room dimensions, and walking paths before ordering.

Sleeper sofas provide everyday seating with a concealed sleeping surface for overnight guests. They are useful in living rooms, dens, offices, and multipurpose spaces where a separate guest bedroom may not be available.

Account for the floor area required when the bed is fully extended. You should also consider mattress size, mechanism type, sofa depth, and whether nearby tables or chairs will need to be moved before the sleeper can be opened.

Love seats typically provide seating for two people within a more compact footprint than a full sofa. They can serve as the primary seating in a small living room or be paired with a sofa to create a coordinated conversation area.

Manual and electric reclining options can add individual comfort without requiring a larger sectional. Measure the space behind and in front of reclining models so the footrests and seat backs can operate without obstruction.

Create a Living Room That Feels Connected

Start With a Living Room Collection You Love

A living room collection makes it easier to create a space that feels coordinated without requiring every piece to be identical. Explore complementary sofas, chairs, occasional tables, TV stands, and storage furniture, then select the pieces that suit your layout and daily needs.

You can furnish the complete room at once or begin with a few essential pieces and add coordinating furniture over time. Custom wood species, finishes, hardware, upholstery, and available design options allow you to personalize the collection while maintaining a connected appearance.

Choose a Comfortable Chair

Complete the Room With Comfortable Accent Seating

Accent seating adds flexibility while giving individuals a comfortable place of their own. Arm chairs provide stationary support, recliners allow you to adjust your position, rockers offer a familiar back-and-forth motion, and gliders move smoothly along a fixed track.

Arm Chairs

Arm chairs provide supportive individual seating without a reclining or rocking mechanism. They can introduce a new fabric, wood tone, or silhouette while complementing the room’s larger sofa or love seat.

Recliners

Recliners allow the back and footrest to adjust for more personalized comfort. Manual models operate with a lever, handle, or push-back motion, while electric recliners use powered controls for smoother positioning.

Rockers

Rocking chairs provide a traditional curved motion that works well for reading, conversation, nurseries, and quiet relaxation. Solid wood rockers can also add visible craftsmanship and warmth to the living room.

Put Useful Surfaces Where You Need Them

Choose Tables That Make the Living Room Work Better

Occasional tables support the living room without becoming its main focus. Coffee tables provide a central surface, end tables place necessities beside seating, sofa tables add function behind or along a wall, and sofa servers create a compact personal work or snack surface. Coordinating the scale and height of these pieces with your seating will help the room feel balanced and comfortable.

Coffee tables sit at the center of a seating arrangement and provide a surface for drinks, books, games, décor, and everyday items. Designs may include drawers, shelves, lift tops, or enclosed storage.

Choose a table that is proportionate to the sofa and leaves comfortable walking space around it. The tabletop is generally most convenient when it sits near the height of the surrounding seat cushions.

End tables are positioned beside sofas, love seats, recliners, and accent chairs. They keep lamps, drinks, devices, remotes, and reading materials within easy reach.

Consider the height of the chair or sofa arm when choosing an end table. Drawers and shelves provide additional storage, while simpler open designs can make a smaller room feel less crowded.

Sofa tables are long, narrow pieces commonly placed behind a sofa or against an open wall. They can hold lighting, photographs, decorative objects, baskets, or small storage items.

A sofa table can help define a seating area within an open floor plan and make the back of a floating sofa feel more finished. Measure the sofa width and select a table that does not extend awkwardly beyond its sides.

Sofa servers provide a compact surface that can pull close to a sofa or chair. They are useful for holding a laptop, snack, beverage, book, or tablet without requiring a larger coffee table.

Their narrow base allows many designs to slide partly beneath the seating. Confirm that the base and tabletop heights are compatible with your sofa or chair before selecting one.

Create a More Organized Living Room Focal Point

Many living rooms are arranged around a television, fireplace, or another prominent architectural feature. TV consoles provide streamlined media storage, corner stands make use of angled spaces, entertainment centers create a larger built-in appearance, and fireplace mantels add warmth and visual structure.

TV Consoles

TV consoles provide a low, horizontal surface for a television while organizing media equipment, remotes, games, and accessories. They may include open shelves, drawers, cabinet doors, or wire-management openings.

Corner TV Stands

Corner TV stands are shaped to fit diagonally into a room corner. They can help preserve open wall space and make an awkward or underused area more functional.

Entertainment Centers

Entertainment centers surround or frame the television with additional shelving, cabinets, display areas, or connecting pieces. They provide substantial storage and can create the appearance of built-in furniture.

Personalize Your Furniture

Customize Living Room Furniture Around Your Home

Living room furniture should reflect how the space is actually used. A family room may need durable upholstery, reclining seats, and accessible media storage, while a formal living room may place greater emphasis on coordinated woodwork, decorative details, and conversation-friendly seating.

Begin with a sofa, chair, table, entertainment center, or collection you like, then explore the available customization options. Depending on the furniture and builder, choices may include wood species, finish colors, upholstery, cushion firmness, reclining features, dimensions, hardware, shelving, doors, and storage configurations.

  • Choose your upholstery material to balance comfort, appearance, durability, and everyday maintenance.
  • Coordinate wood and finishes with flooring, trim, built-ins, and nearby dining furniture.
  • Plan media storage carefully around televisions, components, cords, gaming systems, and accessories.
  • Add useful table storage with drawers, shelves, lift tops, or enclosed cabinet space.
  • Personalize hardware and details to create a traditional, rustic, transitional, or contemporary appearance.

Living Room Furniture Buying Guide

A comfortable living room usually combines several furniture types rather than relying on one large seating piece. Sofas and sectionals establish the main layout, chairs provide individual comfort, occasional tables add useful surfaces, and media furniture keeps electronics and accessories organized. Use this comparison as a starting point, then measure the room and account for reclining clearance, walking paths, open doors, and drawer access.

Sofa Most family and living rooms Provides versatile shared seating Medium to large Commonly seats 3 Works with a wide range of room layouts and coordinating pieces
Sectional Larger households and open spaces Creates an expanded seating arrangement Large Commonly seats 4 or more Provides generous seating and helps define an open room

TV Console Media-focused living rooms Supports a television and organizes components Medium wall width Medium storage Provides a streamlined alternative to a large entertainment center

Living Room Furniture FAQ’s

Living Room Furniture Questions, Answered

Helpful guidance for choosing seating, tables, media furniture, and customization options.

Measure the room’s length and width, along with individual wall sections between doors, windows, fireplaces, and built-ins. Record doorway, hallway, and stairway dimensions to make sure the furniture can be delivered into the room. Account for reclining movement, opened drawers or doors, coffee-table clearance, and comfortable walking paths.

A sofa provides more flexibility because it can be combined with chairs, recliners, or a love seat and repositioned more easily. A sectional provides greater continuous seating and can help define a larger or open-concept room. Your preferred layout, household size, and available floor space will help determine the better choice.

Manual reclining furniture operates through a lever, handle, or body pressure and does not require nearby electrical access. Electric reclining furniture uses powered controls that may allow more gradual adjustment and additional comfort features. Electric models need access to an outlet or compatible power source.

Choose a coffee table that feels proportionate to the sofa without blocking movement through the room. It should generally be shorter than the sofa’s total width and positioned close enough to reach comfortably while preserving walking space. The tabletop is usually most convenient when it sits near the height of the seat cushions.

Available customization may include hardwood species, finish color, upholstery, hardware, dimensions, cushion options, reclining features, doors, drawers, and shelving. The exact choices depend on the furniture design and builder. The Amish Country Heirlooms team can help you review the options available for the pieces you prefer.

The furniture does not need to come from one identical collection. Repeating a few details—such as wood tone, upholstery color, hardware, leg shape, or overall design style—can connect different pieces. Combining complementary rather than perfectly matching furniture can also give the room a more personal and collected appearance.
